LED Lights - Do They Really Save You Money?
When shopping for light bulbs you are faced with many different options.
From LED to halogens incandescents and CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lamps). Which type do you buy?
LED and money-saving
Do you often stand in front of the light bulb section in an electrical store asking yourself, will that $25 per light bulb really save me money in the long run? The answer is yes!
If you switch out your halogens incandescents for good quality LED lights, you will save at least $10 off your bill. This may not seem much but if you add that up over many years, it can make a massive difference.
LEDs are also made to last longer. Therefore they do not need changing as regularly - most of them can last for years! Energy Star-qualified LEDs use only 20%–25% of normal energy and last up to 25 times longer than the traditional incandescent bulbs they replace.
Let’s do a small calculation on the average household. Say you have 47 bulbs in your house right now and they are all 60watt.
- 47 bulbs x 60 watts = 2,820 watts
CFLs light bulbs are 14 watts. You are already cutting your watt usage over half the amount.
- 47 bulbs x 14watts = 658 watts
LED light bulbs use a tiny 9.5 watts
- 47 bulbs x 9.5watts = 446.5 watts
As you can see from the rough calculation, switching to energy-efficient light bulbs like LED will save you a lot of power and money.
